Who is Wilderness Mama?
Wendy Sanders has been hiking and climbing in the Adirondacks for over 30 years. Her interest in outdoor adventure began in high school and continued through college where she received a degree in Outdoor Education from Hampshire College. She then guided young adults through the Pacific Northwest, exploring snowcapped volcanoes, temperate rainforests, coastal headlands, and high desert rivers, all while teaching high school biology during the cooler months. She couldn’t stay away from leading trips, so during the school year she started a Science and Outdoor Adventure Program for her students and provided several trips each year throughout her teaching career. Summiting Adirondack High Peaks, whale watching, ropes course challenges, caving, and cross-country skiing motivated many students to pursue their own adventures. Wendy has retired from teaching, but she is continuing her passion for outdoor adventure, sharing her experience through her guiding service. With a special emphasis on preparation, careful planning, and choice of proper gear she will provide the guidance you need for a unique, fun, and safe adventure in the Adirondacks.
